Shakira was found next to the road, after she was hit by a car. More dead than alive she was rushed into an emergency clinic, where she had to stay several weeks because of the heavy wounds she has gotten.
Shakira was totally paralized, but everything was done in order for her to get a better way of life.. because Shakira wanted to live, and fought like a little lion for her life.. The feeling in her back legs didn't come back, but she still has her happy character.
Shakira belonged to a hunter, but when he heard what had happened, he gave the order to have her euthanized. The vet who first saw Shakira and treated her, just couldn't do that and started the long road to save her and make her happy.
She is 7 years old, a Podenca, a dumped hunting dog of a cruel hunter.. She has a sweet character, is always happy, friendly an sweet with people and children, and with other dogs. The best place for her would be a home where there are more dogs, because they can really help her. At first she had no idea what a cuddle was, but now she really enjoys it to fall asleep when you pet her.. Cuddling is her favorite thing to do now.
Shakira walks with a wheelchair, and that really goes well. She enjoys the walks on the beach, every pet on her little head and some attention will make her day!
Adopting a dog with such a big handicap is a big thing and you really must consider it very well.. but when you are able to organize it very well and you really want it, it definitely is possible.
Peace and patience are very important here, that and understanding and love for a dumped Podenca...
Shakira's name that was given by her hunter was Nula, which means Zero in English... The vet gave her a new name: Shakira, after the Columbian singer Shakira, famous for shaking her hips, which is done by our courageous and never giving up Podenca Shakira now...
She want to love and enjoy.. She is so much more worth than a ZERO. She must be an example for so many... How a nobody should have been killed and couldn't move anymore, now strolls through the dunes on her wheels like a fierce lady.... How she enjoys every moment, how her face seems to be smiling all the time..
She laughs at life, with the biggest thankfulness that she still is here.. Who will give this sweetheart a warm home, because she cannot stay here... on our road there will be so many other who also need our help and just as much care..
And when our Shakira gets a chance to be happy somewhere, another chance less dog will be able to grab a chance on life...
